If you want the fastest progress check in MOUSE: P.I. For Hire, the campaign runs through 24 main missions and the completion route currently tracks 14 side jobs. The safest habit is to treat every return to the P.I. Office or Roadhouse as a cleanup stop before you launch the next story mission.

How long the campaign is

For a straight story run, most players land around a short-to-mid single-digit session count rather than a huge RPG-length campaign. A cleaner way to think about it is:

  • Main path: around 7 to 9 hours.
  • Completionist route: around 14 to 16 hours once collectibles, clues, and side jobs are included.

If your goal is 100%, pair this page with the dedicated all side jobs guide and all collectibles guide.

Missions where side jobs matter most

Opera mission overview screenshot

The risky part is not the mission count. It is the missions that hide optional work before you realize you are locking yourself forward.

Early side-job checkpoints

  • Gumshoe in the Opera: Show Some Culture, Jack
  • Cheeseball Sub: Blueprints, Please
  • Once Upon a Time… By Tinsel Bros.: The Things We Keep
  • A Bit of Curd and Pepper: They Call It “Azurro Burgerro”
  • Saltwater Cambozo: Fishy Business and Imported Goods

Mid-game missable pressure

  • Damp Evidence: Perfect Bog Fondue
  • It All Points Here, Right?: Oh Yes… They Float
  • To Catch a Mockingmouse: Between Alpha and Omega and Mouseburg Confidential
  • The Bookkeeper By Tinsel Bros.: Poster Girl
  • One Flew: Behind the Nuts

Late-game cleanup

  • Glugging From the Deep: Slugs in the Shell and Friends in Deep Places

The easiest side jobs to miss

The two Mockingmouse jobs

Between Alpha and Omega and Mouseburg Confidential are risky because they show up during the mission instead of in the normal hub rhythm. If you are playing for completion, treat them as stop-everything objectives.

Perfect Bog Fondue

This is one of the most common cleanup searches because it turns into an item hunt inside Damp Evidence. Use the separate Perfect Bog Fondue Thingies guide if you want the fast route.

Behind the Nuts

If you are protecting a completionist save, make a manual save before committing around this stretch.

Best mission-by-mission checklist

Use this every time the story moves:

  1. Return to the hub and talk to every NPC until dialogue repeats.
  2. Buy any recoverable collectibles before forgetting them.
  3. Check if a side job can be finished before the next mission.
  4. Keep a manual save if you are entering a known missable-heavy section.
