Welcome back, gumshoe. The trail of clues has led us from the grimy streets to a high-class affair, but don’t let the champagne and fancy hats fool you—danger lurks beneath the surface. In this chapter, we’re boarding the “Fever River” steamboat for a party hosted by the one and only Captain Simms. Our goal? To get the dirt on him and expose his connection to the city’s underworld. This mission tests your skills in both stealth and combat, so keep your wits sharp and your trigger finger ready.
Main Objectives
Your primary goals for this riverboat rendezvous are:
- Attend the “Fever River” steamboat party
- Get close to Captain Simms
- Obtain a BMP Membership Card
- Snap a damning photo of Captain Simms
- Deal with the BMP Enforcers
- Defeat Captain Simms in a final confrontation
- Abandon the ship before it’s too late
- Pin the remaining Shrew Shortage clues
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
The mission kicks off as you board the bustling steamboat. Your first task is to simply blend in. Mingle with the guests, enjoy the music, but keep your eyes peeled. Captain Simms is the big cheese here, and you need to find a way to get into his inner circle, or at least his private quarters.
Getting the BMP Membership Card
To access the restricted areas of the boat where Simms is conducting his shady business, you’ll need a Black-Mask-Posse (BMP) Membership Card. There are a couple of ways to go about this, letting you choose between a path of stealth or all-out action.
-
Optional Path 1: The Stealthy Sleuth: If you prefer to keep things quiet, make your way to the lower decks. You can find a crew member’s uniform in one of the storage closets. Disguised as one of the crew, you can walk right into the security office and lift a BMP card from a desk without anyone batting an eye. This is the cleaner route, saving you ammo and health.
-
Optional Path 2: The Loud Mouth: If subtlety isn’t your style, you can make a frontal assault. Head towards the guarded staircase leading to the upper decks. You’ll have to fight your way through a few BMP enforcers. Once they’re dealt with, one of them will drop a BMP card for you to collect. Be prepared for a firefight; these goons aren’t messing around.
Snapping the Damning Photo
With the BMP card in hand, you can now access the Captain’s private office on the top deck. Inside, you’ll find Simms in a compromising position, exchanging illegal goods with another shady character. This is your chance. Equip your Detective Camera, find a good vantage point from the rafters or a nearby vent, and snap the photo. Make sure the shot is clear and captures the entire transaction!
Once you take the picture, all hell breaks loose. The alarm sounds, and the boat is swarming with BMP Enforcers.
Boss Fight: Captain Simms
After fighting your way through his army of enforcers, you’ll come face-to-face with the captain himself. Simms is a tough old bird who won’t go down without a fight.
Tips for Defeating Captain Simms:
- Use the Environment: The engine room is filled with hazards. Lure Simms near steam pipes and shoot the valves to scald him, or use the moving pistons as temporary cover.
- Keep Your Distance: Simms has a powerful anchor smash attack that deals massive damage up close. Keep moving and use your Tommy Gun or other long-range weapons to chip away at his health.
- Deal with Reinforcements: Throughout the fight, Simms will call in more enforcers. Take them out quickly to avoid being overwhelmed. Your Boomstick is perfect for crowd control in these tight quarters.
- Watch for His Tell: Before his anchor smash, Simms will roar and raise the anchor high above his head. When you see this, dash out of the way immediately!
Once you’ve depleted his health bar, a final cutscene will trigger. With the captain defeated, the entire steamboat starts to go down. You’ll have to make a mad dash for the lifeboats, platforming across collapsing decks and dodging explosions. It’s a thrilling escape sequence that caps off the mission.
Collectibles
While the reference files are still being updated for this chapter, be sure to keep a sharp eye out for hidden goodies. Based on previous missions, you should be on the lookout for:
- Comics & Newspapers: Check the lounges and guest cabins. These are often left on tables or chairs.
- Baseball Cards: Sometimes carried by specific enemies or hidden in less-traveled corners of the map.
- Schematics: Look for these in the engine room, security offices, or the captain’s quarters. Always check behind crates and under desks.
- Figurines: These are the rarest of all. Search high and low, from the crow’s nest to the boiler room.
My advice? Check every single room and corner. The developers of MOUSE: P.I. love to hide things in the most unlikely of places. Good luck, detective!
